European Parliament elections will take place next June in each of the European Union’s 27 Member States- between June 3 and 7 depending on your country. This is a defining moment of EU policy-making and it is an ideal moment to raise questions that are of concern to us with future members of the European Parliament.
The European Union makes important decisions that affect our future as Armenians. For instance, EU policies can affect the development or preservation of Armenian culture, language and identity throughout Europe. They affect peace-making in the South Caucasus and the future of Nagorno-Karabakh. They are important for the future of Armenia’s European integration. And they will determine whether Turkey joins the EU, and on what conditions.
This is why AGBU Europe is now leading a pre-electoral campaign to ask candidates in European elections what their position is on these issues.
The campaign will consist in asking candidates the same set of seven questions in every EU country and in publishing their answers as widely as possible. This will provide Europeans, Armenians included, with information to help them choose between candidates on election day. Crucially, it will raise awareness among candidates, and remind them that their electors care about these issues.
